GENETICS Terms DNA

- Info:

- DNA stands for DeoxyriboNucleic Acid.

- DNA is complex molecular structure which looks like twisted ladder.

- DNA "strands" are made of sugar and phosphate molecules.

- DNA "rungs" are made of nitrogen-containing chemicals called bases:

Adenine (A) is purine.

Thymine (T) is pyrimidine.

Guanine (G) is purine.

Cytosine (C) is pyrimidine.

- DNA contains long sequence of nitrogen bases pairs and there are only two types of pairs AT and GC

- Each pair is connected to each other with Hydrogen bond.

- Each DNA strand is acctually a program that defines how a living organism should be built.
