- Record Type was invented to support buicinsess

 

- Both Object and Record Type can have different Page Layout for each role.

- Better name for Record Type would be Object Subtype since Record Type has all the fields of the original object but can   have subset of picklist values of each picklist field.

 

- Info:

  - It is about simplifying records by using picklists.

  - Create Record Type to make business process available to the users in a profiles

  - Use to define different sets of picklist values for both standard and custom picklists.

  - Use to implement your custom business processes by associating them to specific page layouts.

  - Record type is created for specific object by first selecting that object.

  - You can make Record Type available for different profiles.

  - Apply different Page Layouts to different profiles.

  - Picklist available for editing:

  - Remove values you don’t want to show.

  - Record Types are not available in professional addition.

  - Create record type

    Assign record type to one or more profiles

  - Record Types implement business processes through page layout

Record types allow you to offer different business processes, picklist values, and page layouts to different users based on their

profiles. Record types can be used in various ways, for example:

• Create record types for opportunities to differentiate your regular sales deals from your professional services engagements

and offer different picklist values for each.

• Create record types for cases to display different page layouts for your customer support cases versus your billing cases.

  - FIELDS:

    - capacity of tanks  (car, ship)

    - size of wings    (plane)

    - engine power    (car, ship, plane)

    - type of frame    (bike)

    - type of sale    (ship)
